FAQ Part 24

Hi Cathie,

I very much enjoyed looking at the site! Compliments to the webmaster.
What do you find the best way to clean a corset is? I have a few I wear for fun but am concerned the bodies oils will harm the fabric over time.

Best regards.

If the corset is a cotton or washable fabric wash is gently and scrub the surface liightly with a soft brush and soap suds. Then wrap it in a turkish towel to absorb a lot of the moisture and allow it to air dry quickly. Other fabrics you can have dry cleaned.
Always wear an underliner of some sort under any corset. It will also protect your skin. You can buy corset underliners from most of the corset mkers. I know J-C Creations in Amsterdam makes them in several sizes and colors.
Don't hesitate to contact me with further questions.

Hi,

I'm a 32 year old female about 5'4 and 130lbs, my waist is about 29 inches. I LOVE the tightlaced look. It just looks like how women are suposed to be. I'd like to get mine to about 24 inches, maybe 21 someday. I ordered one online and I'm sending a photo of it so you can tell me if it's the right kind. It's suposed to be a training corset. I don't know why girls hardly wear dresses anymore, just pants or jeans. I wish we'd all go back to the victorian dress cause women were women back then. I go to Rennaissance faires every year just so I can wear a corset and dress in that style. The other photo is what my waist looks like, ignore the sticker tattoo. Do you think I can shrink a few inches in one year? How many inches could I probably go? I'm excited about doing this. You look stunning btw.

Thanks for writing. You will have the most success if you buy a corset made to measure for you. It doesn't have to be fancy; just very basic but if it fits properly it will look better and will not create sore spots. Also, make sure you wear an underliner under your corset. Initially you don't need much reduction to make it look super--the change in silhouette is the deal!! For a first corset I would think you might try 25 inches--gradually pull it in until you can wear it closed comfortably. Then order the next corset not more than two inches smaller. and do the same thing--lace it in until you can wear it closed comfortably.
If you let me know where you live I can give you an idea of corset makers. Keep in touch.

Hi Cathie!
I am studying to become an opera singer at the University of Manitoba in Canada. I have a few questions about corset training:
1.) Does your voice get lower while you wear a corset? (I really don't have the desire to loose my high notes!)
2.) Do you think it is wise to wear a corset while singing? I'm just considering the fact that my personal ribcage is built like a house and that if I have to expand my lungs while I'm singing, is it even possible or wise to corset train?
3.) My waist is currently 29" yet I'm very large boned. I've always wanted to get down to 20" but is this wise if I want to keep singing?
Thank-you for taking the time to read my e-mail and I hope that you get back to me. If and when I start corset training, I'll probably e-mail back when I get married and start having kids for more information about wearing a corset during pregnancy! Thank-you for your time and have a great day!

Thanks for taking time to write. Wearing a corset has not affected my voice. Corset wearing would not produce any permanent change. It can't hurt to try corset wearing. Without much reduction you get a change in silhouette which is very effective. The corset will confine your diaphragm but the majority of your lung capacity will not be compromised. I would suggest starting slowly and see how it goes.
I hope this has helped a little. Don't hesitate to get back to me.

Hi Cathie,

Your progress is amazing. I am interested in corseting. Where do you
purchase your corsets? How soon will my waist return to its normal size if I
don't wear it? My waist is too big for my hip and bust sizes . Please help
me to go in the right direction.

Thanks,

Let me know where you live and I will give you some possibilities for suppliers.

Dear Cathie,
I am currently working for a TV company in London called Objective Productions researching for a science programme about the human body for the BBC in England.
One of the things that we are interested in are amazing things that the human body can do and after seeing your website my series producer has expressed an interest to know more about you and how corsets work.
Firstly, from the point of view of the body, how is it that wearing a corset works? What exactly does a corset do to the body?
Secondly, is there a biological difference between men and women that would stop a man from being able to wear a corset?
Could I do it to myself if I wanted to and how long does wearing a corset take before the effects are evident?
Finally, I’ve seen the x-rays on your website and they are brilliant. My producer is particularly interested in knowing what effect wearing a corset has on your internal organs? Does their position change at all?
Thank you so much Cathie for any information that you can send my way and my apologies for being so demanding with so many questions in my first email to you!
Kind Regards.

A corset basically compresses the lower ribcage and the waist as well. The overall effect however is a change in the silhouette rather than the actual wast size. As men have a heavier ribcage than women it is more difficult for them to achieve the same results but they can with time.
The outward effects can be immediate just by changing the silhouette. To actually decrease the waist size should be done slowly over a long period of time so as to do no harm to the body or cause any pain.
Feel free to contact me with further questions.

Any thing scheduled yet?
Thanks

Cathie will appear on the Tyra Banks Show in October. It will be airing Oct. 11th, 2006 and re-airs two weeks later. You can check your local listings for times and channels.

Hi Cathy
I just want to say that I think you are great! I've been following your progress on staylace and on your site and you really are a wonderful sexy lady. I trying to find videos of you but lucky husband Bob gets to see you everyday. Most people don't understand corsets and everytime you have to explain so politely to them.
All the best to you and Bob.
